For Sarah Michelle Gellar, there’s a downside to acting alongside Robin Williams on The Crazy Ones: her struggle to keep a straight face. “It’s like when my 4-year-old daughter says something inappropriate, but I can’t laugh,” says the mom to Charlotte and 12-month-old son Rocky (with husband Freddie Prinze, Jr.).
Sharing such lighthearted moments on set of the CBS comedy, on which Gellar and Williams appear as father-daughter partners in a Chicago advertising firm, helped the costars form an intense bond.
Jokes Gellar: “I applied for Robin to adopt me!”
All in all, Gellar can’t help but credit the Mork & Mindy TV veteran with making her time on The Crazy Ones’ set a fun one. “It can be intimidating when you work with a comic of that level, and the one thing I can attest to with Robin is that he cares almost more about making everybody else comfortable,” the actress explains, adding that she’s happy “to let Robin take the lead.” Says the former Buffy star of Williams: “You have to say, “Go, go — do your thing,” because he really wants it to work with everyone [on set], which is rare.”
When Gellar clocks out and returns home to her real family, the actress has a deeper appreciation for the show’s flexible schedule. “I take Charlotte to school every day,” she tells Us Weekly. “I applaud women who make movies around the world — but that’s not me.”
The Crazy Ones airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. (EST) on CBS.
Sarah Michelle Gellar gets by with a little help from her friend … err, husband.
Robin Williams‘s The Crazy Ones costar, 36, says in the midst of one of the busiest times of her life — “We’ve moved houses, had two children’s birthdays, we are launching [a website]. Oh, and I’m launching a small TV show you might have heard of,” she recently told PEOPLE — she leans on hubby Freddie Prinze, Jr. for support.
“I have amazing help,” she explains when it comes to balancing work and being a mom to Charlotte Grace, 4, and Rocky James, 1.
She adds, “I have my mom who lives nearby. I have my husband who is so incredibly hands-on. Thank God he can cook or I would probably never eat.”
Prinze also makes sure the little ones get their daily bites in as well. “We try to make [everything] a family thing, so we’ll go to the farmer’s market and Charlotte can pick out a piece of fish,” Gellar says.
“And she and Freddie will go to the grill and she pretends to light her little grill. Actually, one of my best friends just got a pretend hibachi grill for Rocky for his first birthday so he can play on it, even though right now he can use it to stand up.”
But when it comes to teaching the couple’s kids about health, the former Cruel Intentions star has taken the reins.
Teaming up with her mom Rosellen, the two have partnered with Sounds of Pertussis to spread awareness about the importance of whooping cough vaccinations.
“You’re on the subway, you’re in line at Starbucks,” Gellar explains. “It’s so easily spread, and the only way to prevent it is for adults to get the booster shot. One of the great things about my job and what I do is I get to reach mass people. It’s great to know about a cool new handbag or shoes or a haircut someone gets, but we also have a responsibility. If we have information that can help save lives, then [spreading it is] what I want to do. Pertussis is really potentially fatal in infants.”
Even at their small age, the blonde beauty always makes her kids aware of the importance of staying healthy.
“You make everything something to their level,” she shares. “When we wash our hands, we sing the happy birthday song and we pick whose birthday it’s going to be. We go to the farmer’s market and pick out the fresh fruits and vegetables. Charlotte now has her own garden and she grows her own vegetables and gets to eat her fruits and vegetables from there. Children are never too young to learn about health.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar made her name as Buffy the Vampire Slayer more than a decade ago, and tonight, she’s back in the TV spotlight starring in the premiere of The Crazy Ones alongside Robin Williams.
“That is the bucket list, to work with an Academy Award-winning actor and one of the greatest standup comics of all time,” Gellar says of costarring with Williams.
And the feeling is mutual. In his Parade cover story, Williams said, “I’m having such a blast doing [the show] with Sarah. She’s a sweet woman.” On the CBS comedy, Williams and Gellar play a father-daughter duo running an ad agency.
Gellar’s new starring role coincides with another project that’s important to her: spreading the word about pertussis, or whooping cough. The mom of two (daughter Charlotte, 3, and son Rocky, 1) with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. is leading a campaign to encourage adults to get vaccinated to avoid spreading the re-emerging disease to young children, who are particularly vulnerable.
“Having children is the greatest gift anyone’s ever given me, and if I can help protect anyone else’s gift, then it’s not just my pleasure, but it’s my responsibility to do it,” Gellar says.
The actress, 36, talked to Parade.com about the premiere of The Crazy Ones, what it’s like on set (“It’s a big party!”), and how her own family has helped prepare her for the role.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have been happily married since Sept. 1, 2002, but their 10-year union hasn’t been without its ups and downs. Speaking to MSN’s Wonderwall, Gellar insists she’s not equipped to be doling out marital advice.
“God, if I knew, I would write a book and retire,” says the star, who met her husband on the set of 1997′s I Know What You Did Last Summer (costarring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillippe). “I wouldn’t be here right now. I mean, it’s work. You have to work at anything. It’s any relationship in your life. You have to nurture it and take time with it.”
The couple are parents to daughter Charlotte, 3, and son Rocky, 10 months. Raising two children has been an adjustment, Gellar says, but it’s not as terrifying as she imagined. “I think it’s easier only because the main thing as a parent is you have to learn how to trust yourself,” she explains. “And I think there’s a confidence that you have the second time that it’s just impossible to have the first time.”
Gellar, 36, was still breast-feeding her son when she shot the pilot for her new CBS comedy, The Crazy Ones. “They would joke that when my outfit stopped fitting me during the day, it was time to take a break and let Sarah go back to her trailer,” she recalls. “It took a village.”
With a loving husband, two beautiful children and a new TV show premiering this fall, Gellar is counting her blessings. “I feel like I’ve already accomplished so much in life that everything else is kind of gravy,” she tells Wonderwall. “I just feel very lucky.”
When it comes to her parenting style, Sarah Michelle Gellar likes to keep it simple. Us Weekly caught up with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress at the CBS Upfront event for her new comedy series, The Crazy Ones, in New York City on Wednesday, May 15, where she shared her best parenting advice.
Gellar, 36, is mom to daughter Charlotte, 3, and son Rocky, 8 months, with husband Freddie Prinze, Jr. Managing to juggle young children and her career, the actress told Us her parenting tip isn’t “too original,” but it works.
“Just trust your instincts,” she said. “There’s a reason why we have them.”
In her big return to TV, the Ringer actress will be teaming up with Robin Williams for The Crazy Ones. The two stars will be playing father and daughter who work together at an ad agency.
Williams, 61, who is a father of three from two previous marriages, joked with Us that his best parenting is to “just say no!”
“What? To more children?” Gellar asked.
“Yes!” Williams, who tied the knot for the third time in October 2011, joked. “To more children. We have enough!”
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s little princess met a fairy tale princess during a family trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., March 6. The spouses of 10 years took their 3-year-old daughter, Charlotte, to the see the new Fantasy Faire attraction, which officially opens March 12.
“Charlotte is a huge fan of the princesses and was very excited to visit the new Fantasy Faire at Disneyland,” a source tells Us Weekly. “She could not have been more thrilled to meet Rapunzel.”
Gellar, 35, “mentioned that Tangled is one of Charlotte’s very favorite movies,” the source adds. The couple’s 6-month-old son, Rocky James, was not included in the family photo with the Disney character.
Following the cancellation of The CW’s Ringer in 2012, Gellar laid low while pregnant with her little boy. She recently signed on to star in producer David E. Kelley’s workplace sitcom, The Crazy Ones, opposite Robin Williams. Prinze, 36, has not appeared on television since he guest starred in a 2010 episode of Psych. He recently voiced the character of Lt. James Vega in the animated film Mass Effect: Paragon Lost.
Gellar and Prinze — who have appeared in four films together, including I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scooby-Doo — celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary in September 2012.

January 5, 2013 - Exclusive: Sarah Michelle Gellar Plotting TV Return – and There’s a Buffy Connection!
Sarah Michelle Gellar may be back on the small screen next fall as the star of a new half-hour comedy, TVLine has learned exclusively.
The potential (and currently untitled) series, which is being developed at 20th Century Fox TV (home of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), chronicles the hijinks parents get into while their kids are not at home.
Gellar would play the wife/mother.
The actress — who attempted a TV comeback last year with The CW’s now-cancelled Ringer — became interested in the project after reading the Shepard Boucher-penned spec script. (Boucher’s credits include serving as a staff writer on the TBS comedy Men at Work.)
The project will be shopped to the major networks in the coming weeks.
David Hemingson (How I Met Your Mother, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23) and Margaret Riley (Love and Other Drugs) are attached as exec producers.

Sounds like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have a little fighter on their hands.
Since welcoming their second child together, a son, in September, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, 35, and the actor, 36, have managed to keep their baby boy’s name a secret.
But now, the couple is ready to reveal the moniker they chose: Rocky James, Gellar’s rep tells Us Weekly. (Married for ten years, Gellar and Prinze are already parents to Charlotte Grace, 3.)
In addition to being the name of two of the most famous boxers of all time (Marciano and the fictional Balboa), Rocky is a name of English origin, meaning “stony” or “craggy.” Occasionally, it’s used as a nickname for the Italian “Rocco” (after the 14th-century saint.) James, meanwhile, is dad Prinze’s middle name.
